my trainer started up a show series and I asked her if anyone was taking photos.
the rest grew rather exponentially from there :) it helps that I'm in a small area with limited photographers and only a few that seem to 'get' horse show photography and can do it semi well. you can check out the show photos I've done (and see how I improved too!) in the 'galleries' and 'ATE shows' at www.catspawphotos.com
it's hosted/whatever'd throug SmugMug as a pro account, which means I have a basket set up for prints, downloads, etc for folks to use. his best bet is to start low on the totem poll and get experience -- I know there's a local dressage show series (that I couldn't shoot timewise this last year and I only hope it's happening again next year!) that has no photographer that I hope to pick up, more for the eexperience than expecting folks to pay for schooling show photos.
course, with economy going down, more folks will do schooling shows than rater shows -- or so the thinking goes. So who knows? might be the best place to be :D
